What is behind this acronym which is now part of the language in the human resources sector?

What is the MBTI?

The MBTI, Myers Briggs Type Indicator, is a personality analysis tool that identifies a person's preferences in 4 dimensions: interactions with the outside world, the way to collect information and data the person relies on, how decisions are made and how the person chooses to organize him- or herself.

What is a preference?

Cross your Arms! Is it easy? the general answer is: "Yes!" Cross them now in the other direction! Still so obvious? For the majority of people, the answer is no. Everyone has a "preference", a side that does not ask for any effort or reflection. This does not mean that we cannot cross our arms in the other direction... even if it is less instinctive. That's the preference, the preferential behavior we turn to in an innate way.

How is the MBTI useful?

Discovering your preferences allows you to get to know others better, to better understand them and to interact more serenely. Improving communication, understanding ones reactions to stress, managing conflict or change, developing leadership, valuing the diversity of working styles,... are just some of the applications of MBTI.

There are so many tools for analyzing personality... how is the MBTI different?

The MBTI brings the person to think and to position oneself on ones preferences, which one chooses for oneself. This is in itself very different from a test, the result of which could give the impression of being put in a box, or of being evaluated on a scale of value.

Zoom: A 3-step approach

The MBTI approach allows to identify and validate ones profile gradually and in all consciousness.

  1. The participant discovers, for each dimension, the 2 corresponding preferences. He begins then, through these explanations and exchanges with the practitioner, to recognize a preference.
  2. He is then given his "apparent" preference which is the result of the previous questionnaire.
  3. On this basis he validates his preference.
